The toxicology examination to determine the true cause of death of 27-year-old Afrobeats sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has been finalized. The findings have been sent to the Lagos State police.

The tests, carried out in the United States were intended to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s premature passing.

Last November, Lagos State representative Oluwaseun Akinde revealed to the coroner’s court in Ikorodu that while the external body autopsy had been completed, the toxicology analysis, which focuses on internal factors, was still pending.

The recent conclusion of this examination represents a significant step forward in the inquiry.

A government official from Lagos State, who chose to remain anonymous due to restrictions on discussing the case publicly, informed Punch that the toxicology results were delivered to the state’s DNA and Forensic Centre last week.

Subsequently, the results were passed on to the police earlier this week to aid in further investigations.

The insider stated,

“The toxicology test is ready and given to the police. We projected 10 weeks from the outset but it came in before then. It was received by the DNA and Forensic Centre last week and has been sent to the police.”

The receipt of the result was confirmed by an anonymous source from the Lagos State Police Command, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the press.

The source said,

The toxicology report is with us. It arrived on Monday but it is medical jargon for us. We don’t understand what it is. So it has been sent to the pathologist that carried out the autopsy to analyse and interpret it.”

During the coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death, Richard Somiari, the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, stated that the toxicology report would be completed within the upcoming three to four weeks. Somiari emphasized the importance of obtaining the initial autopsy results within this timeframe to verify and validate the cause of death.

We searched for multiple possibilities, to check if poison was involved in the death of Mohbad since no actual cause was mentioned.”

The forensic specialist reassured the community about the sufficient security measures and surveillance in place for the samples during the autopsy.

He said,

We have a place where items are stored for safety and security of results. There is a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad.”

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the young age of 27. The circumstances surrounding his untimely demise have ignited a wave of controversies on various social media platforms.
