During an interview, Davido, the popular Nigerian music artist, revealed an intriguing story about how he managed to accumulate a significant amount of $600,000 from his dedicated fans during his birthday celebration.
Davido shared the extraordinary tale, shedding light on the remarkable generosity exhibited by his fanbase. He recounted the origin of this exceptional windfall, attributing it to a playful social media post he made on his birthday.
After acquiring a luxurious Cullinan car, the singer took to his social media platform, playfully requesting financial assistance from his legion of supporters to cover the customs clearance fees for his new vehicle upon its arrival in Nigeria.
Highlighting the exorbitant costs associated with importing cars into the country, Davido appealed for contributions, which unexpectedly sparked a tremendous outpouring of generosity from his devoted followers.
The singer expressed that the response to his appeal surpassed all expectations, with fans from far and wide coming together to support him.
With just one post, Davido was able to mobilize his fanbase, resulting in an overwhelming influx of monetary contributions amounting to $600,000.
Asa Asika, the manager of Davido, disclosed that the singer has previously worked together with Burna Boy and Wizkid.
This information was shared in response to inquiries about the absence of recent collaborations between Davido and other prominent artists.
While participating in the Ventes Rap show, Asika was questioned by the interviewer regarding the lack of Davido’s collaborations with Burna Boy or Wizkid.
During his recent appearance on the Ventes Rap show, the interviewer asked:
“How come we don’t see Davido featuring Burna Boy or Wizkid?”
In his words:
“There have been collaborations, Burna Boy and Wizkid have a song, Davido and Kizz Daniel have a song, Davido and Olamide have a song, Asake is on David’s album, so the big artistes in Nigeria work, they might not collaborate as often but they do.
Collaboration is one of the major things that have pushed Afrobeats to where it is.”
Despite being recognized as one of the top three Nigerian artists alongside Wizkid and Burna Boy, Davido made it clear that he does not entertain any comparisons with his peers.
In a TikTok video posted by British-Nigerian content creator, Shopsydoo, Davido proudly declared himself as the only “GOAT” in Nigeria.
“There is only one GOAT in my country and it’s me,” he boasted.
Davido recently declared on an American show, Sway’s Universe, that despite the common belief that he, Wizkid, and Burna Boy are the top three Afrobeats stars globally, he considers himself the sole prominent Afrobeats artist.
