Paternity fraud has been an age-long problem facing many families all over the world. However, with the advancement in technology, it has become easier and cheaper to detect paternity fraud.

In this article, we will take a look at some of the shocking cases of Nigerian celebrities and their counterparts in other parts of the world who fell victim to paternity fraud.

Nii Odartey Lamptey

In 2013, Nii Odartey Lamptey a former Ghanaian professional footballer was given the shock of his life after a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test revealed that he is not the biological father of his three children. The former Ghanaian star footballer had suspected his wife, Gloria Lamptey of cheating and decided to conduct a DNA test on his children.

Reports suggested that the footballer had known about his wife’s infidelity, but out of love for her and the businesses they own together, he decided to stay in the marriage. He was also alleged to have fought his wife on numerous occasions over her cheating ways.

So, after 20 years of marriage, the court ended the relationship between the footballer and his ex-wife as none of the children belonged to the footballer. Lamptey ended up a sad and defeated man after many years playing for top European clubs like Aston Villa, PSV Eindhoven, Coventry City, and the Ghana national football team.

Geremi Njitap

Cameroonian ex-footballer Geremi Sorele Njitap Fotso, known simply as Geremi has fallen for paternity fraud. The ex-Real Madrid star recently filed for divorce from his wife, Toukam Fotso Laure Verline after it was confirmed through a DNA test that he is not the father of his twin daughters.

The former Chelsea and Cameroon midfielder, Geremi Njitap decided to end his marriage after the DNA tests showed his two children belonged to other men.

According to a suit Geremi filed in court, his wife allegedly had a fling with another man who gave birth to their twin daughters. The former footballer said the wife’s infidelity has broken the harmony and peace that once dwelt in their home.

It was reported that the footballer had gone ahead to marry the woman thinking that the twin she gave birth to belonged to him.

Reacting to the shocking news, the ex-footballer stated that the revelation had caused him huge psychological harm and damaged his life. He was married to his wife, Toukam Fotso Laure Verline for 12 years.

Geremi during his active days, played for Chelsea, Real Madrid, and the Cameroonian national team.

Chinedu Ani Emmanuel

Nigerian actor, content creator, and media personality, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel aka Nedu is also a victim of paternity fraud. He described the incident as the most difficult time of his life. According to him, the incident caused him anxiety and depression.

According to Nedu, he was forced to conduct a DNA test on his children owing to his wife’s continuous infidelity. When the results came out, he found out that he was not the biological father of his first son even though his wife gave birth to the boy during the time they were happily married. Following the sad discovery, he divorced his wife.

However, his wife, Uzoamaka Ohiri had accused him of domestic violence. She alleged that Nedu assaulted her just after she had given birth to one of their children. She also called for the media personality to be taken off air due to his history of abuse. Nedu replying in a social media post claimed that she made up the story. Nedu added that the issue was dismissed by the police and the court after a thorough investigation.

Duncan Mighty

In 2020, Nigerian singer, Duncan Wene Mighty Okechukwu aka Duncan Mighty went public and accused his wife, Vivien of deceiving him. He claimed that he was not the biological father of their daughter Mitchell. He accused his wife of planning his death to take over his properties. In a lengthy post on Instagram, the singer alleged that one certain Bright and Frank are the fathers of Mitchell, not him.

He accused his wife of repeatedly cheating on him and breaking his heart. It is not clear the status of their marriage for now.

Femi Kuti

Veteran Nigerian musician, Femi Kuti also fell victim to paternity fraud. During an interview with Channels Television, the star narrated how he found out that he’s not the biological father of his two children.

He shared details of the incident in an interview he granted in 2014. During the time of the interview, he opened up that the paternity fraud case happened eight years ago. Narrating how he found out, he said one of his girlfriends who had given birth to two children for him was conversing on the phone with her alleged lover without knowing that he was listening.

He took some time and listened as she continued her discussion on the phone with her lover. Femi said he entered the room and demanded the phone from her. She hesitated, but he threatened to deal with her if she didn’t hand over the phone. After collecting the phone, he called the person on the other line, a gentleman picked up and professed love to the singer’s woman without knowing that the singer had found out.

He said before the incident, there were already rumours in the Shrine that one of his children didn’t look anything like him. So he took his sister’s advice and conducted a DNA test which found out that the children didn’t belong to him.
