On Friday, the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, for Naira abuse.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro convicted him after reviewing the facts of the case.
In his allocution, Bobrisky stated to the court that he was unaware of the legislation against drug abuse.
He claimed to be a social media influencer with more than five million followers.
The court then informed him that ignorance of the law was no excuse.
He said:
“I know, My Lord. My Lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money.
“I would do a video on my page and I will educate people about spraying money.
“I will not repeat it again. I regret my actions.”
Recall that The mugshot of Bobrisky was released by the EFCC’s Lagos State Zonal Command following his arrest on wednesday.
The photograph of the popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye alias Bobrisky was released in confirmation of his detention.
The anti-corruption agency stated that he was held for Naira mutilation and would be charged in court after the inquiry.
It was revealed that the 31-year-old was invited following a video showed him spraying and flashing wads of fresh Naira notes during the opening of a film, Ajakaju, made by director Eniola Ajao, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.
A statement from the commission reads:
“Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation of Iris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, for allegedly spraying Naira notes.
The EFCC had invited the 31-year old following a video report of spraying and flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie, Ajakaju, produced by Eniola Ajao, a Nollywood actress and producer, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.
Investigation also revealed that he had also committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times.
Following the invitation by the Commission, he arrived at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC in the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024 for interrogation and volunteered his statements.
He will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation “.
VeryDarkMan responded in a video message posted on his Instagram profile, threatening to become a crossdresser and use the female restroom if prominent crossdressers like Bobrisky are not jailed.
He claimed that his current incarceration was related to his request for Bobrisky’s arrest and that he was being shielded by gay politicians.
He stated:
“When I came out of detention, I read somewhere that it was Tonto Dikeh who detained me. She can never detain me, I don’t care about her connection.
The truth is that I was detained for the video I made calling for Bobrisky’s arrest and my claims that he was being protected by gay lawmakers. My detention is just a little sacrifice. They will still arrest me for my subsequent videos.
“Since the police say crossdressing is legal, I wll soon start crossdressing. I will give them one week after I drop my petition against Bobrisky. If Bobrisky is not arrested, I will become a crossdresser and use the female restroom.”
