Timi Agbaje, a Nigerian content creator, has provided a detailed explanation regarding the contrasting outcomes of crossdresser Bobrisky’s imprisonment and socialite Cubana Chief Priest’s bail, despite both being charged with the same offense.
Last week, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos state, with no option of a fine, after pleading guilty to Naira abuse.
However, on April 17th, the same court granted Cubana Chief Priest bail in the amount of N10 million, as he pleaded not guilty to the offense of Naira abuse.
Timi Agbaje, who possesses a degree in Law, stated that the reason for the differing verdicts was Bobrisky’s admission of guilt, whereas Cubana Chief Priest maintained his innocence.
According to Agbaje, in Bobrisky’s case, two possible outcomes were likely due to his guilty plea: either he would pay a fine or be imprisoned.
On the other hand, Cubana Chief Priest was granted bail because, under the law, his plea of not guilty meant that no case existed until the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) could provide substantial evidence beyond reasonable doubt of his involvement in Naira abuse.
Agbaje further explained that the defense counsel could argue that the money seen in the video, which the EFCC possesses, may not be genuine legal tender.
Cubana Chief Priest, a well-known celebrity socialite and barman, has caused quite a stir online with his recent party to celebrate his release on bail. He had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges related to Naira abuse.
