A man has narrated exactly what caused the boat accident that claimed the life of well-known actor, John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, and other actors on Wednesday, April 10.
Junior Pope lost his life due to drowning while aboard a boat returning from a movie set.
The eyewitness mentioned that the boat carrying Junior Pope collided with a canoe carrying fishermen, causing both vessels to capsize in the river.
The witness explained that the boat operator of Junior Pope’s vessel failed to notice an approaching boat in time, leading to the collision. Regrettably, there were no divers present to assist in the rescue efforts.
Furthermore, the witness stated that some of the victims managed to hold onto a boat’s rope after it overturned, eventually finding refuge on the boat while awaiting help. Fortunately, assistance arrived promptly when individuals on another boat spotted them and rescued them.
As of now, three bodies, including that of Junior Pope, have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate the bodies of the remaining victims.

According to reports, Junior Pope tragically passed away while filming on a river. It has been confirmed that no life support was available during the filming on the water.
Videos circulating online show the actor’s lifeless body being recovered from the river, along with four others whose identities have not yet been disclosed.
In a heartfelt tribute, comedian Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, also known as Sabinus or Mr Funny, shared a video of his last moments with Junior Pope. He expressed his grief over the loss and mentioned their unfinished projects.
Sabinus, who struggled to come to terms with the news, spoke about how Junior Pope had supported him during a series shoot. He fondly remembered the late actor’s humility and encouragement, which had endeared him to his heart.
He wrote:
“Baba No Na We Still Have Unfinished Job. This CaNt Be True Ahhhhh !! You came through for me when I needed you on my job you treated me like a brother Humility And Encouragement Was Part Of Your Lifestyle Ahhhh.
We did a job on sabi ride in just 1 hour we finished it , baba was so good and spontaneous ahhh this one pain me.”
