Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, who served as the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, has officially stepped down from his position within the State Executive Council.

According to the Daily Post, the resignation letter was dated May 15, 2024.

Professor Mmom is widely recognized as a staunch supporter of former governor Nyesom Wike.

In his resignation letter, Professor Mmom cited a “toxic” working environment as the primary factor behind his decision. He expressed his belief that such an environment would hinder his ability to accomplish his goals for the Education sector in the State.

Despite his resignation, the former Commissioner expressed gratitude towards Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the opportunity to serve in his administration. He also extended his well wishes to the Governor.

The contents of the letter stated:

“It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity.

“It is however unfortunate to note that my current work space has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me realize my set targets for the Education sector in the State.

“There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate.

“I want to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve in your cabinet and wish your administration well.

“Kindly accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”

Also, Gift Worlu, the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, has submitted his resignation from Governor Sim Fubara’s administration.

Worlu’s decision to step down coincides with the resignation of the state’s Commissioner for Education, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, from the Fubara cabinet.

In a formal letter directed to Governor Fubara, via the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Worlu mentioned a “hostile” work atmosphere and the purported effort to combine the executive and legislative branches of government as factors influencing his resignation.

The letter he penned expresses his grievances.

“I write to formally resign my appointment as the Honourable Commissioner of Housing.

“One of the most difficult decision in my life yet, it is precipitated by the toxic atmosphere that has characterised our working relationship, especially the smouldering arbitrariness of decisions and actions, induding the attempt to fuse the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.

“I thank you for the opportunity to serve in your government and wish you the best as you continue to steer the ship of state.

”Kindly accept assurances of my esteemed regards.”
