Nigerian actor and filmmaker Jide Awobona has kicked against negative remarks about Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie that claimed the life of the late Junior Pope Odonwodo aka Junior Pope.

The tragic passing of Junior Pope on Wednesday night, April 11, led to another period of mourning in Nollywood. Reports indicated that he drowned in the Anam River in Anambra State while returning from a movie location with his colleagues in a boat. Their bodies have been recovered since then.

Critics pointed fingers at the absence of life jackets, divers, and medical personnel on site as contributing factors to his death. Adanma Luke was specifically criticized for not ensuring these safety measures were in place before the boat trip.

In response, Jide Awobona stated that it has unfortunately become common for actors to work in risky conditions while filming. He mentioned that any complaints raised are often disregarded.

Jide Awobona expressed:

“It could have been anyone of us, stop dragging this producer, it’s a norm here, when you refuse to do certain things they tag you difficult and call you unprofessional, with the usual line” were you not paid, didn’t you read the script” when you complain too much, they stop calling 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️.”

In other news, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming 2023 elections, expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic passing of Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, widely known as Junior Pope.

In his heartfelt tribute, Obi praised Junior Pope for his remarkable talent as an actor, bringing both laughter and enlightenment to Nigerians through his entertaining performances in movies and comedy skits.

The news of his demise has left a profound impact on Obi and countless others, as they mourn the loss of a truly gifted and beloved artist.

He said:

“I am shocked by the reports of the death of yet another vibrant Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope. Our entertainment industry, and indeed our dear nation, is once again thrown into mourning, by the death of this young talented actor.

“His death is yet another great loss to the entertainment industry which has in recent years risen to become a most vibrant sector of our social and economic life. I am even more saddened to imagine the pain and agony of the families they have just left behind.

“Death is a very painful experience, but the death of a young one with a promising future is even more devastating. I sincerely commiserate with his family and the families of others who also lost their lives in the boat accident.

“I also condole with the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and the entire entertainment industry. May God give them, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this sad irreplaceable loss, and grant eternal rest to the dead. -PO”
