Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has been instructed by a Federal High Court to pay a penalty of N10 million to Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International.
The court ordered Halima Abubakar to pay the money to Suleman for spreading defamatory comments about the clergyman.
The court’s ruling, given on Monday, requires Halima Abubakar to reimburse Apostle Suleman for the harm caused by her behavior.
As per the court’s official copy of the verdict, Apostle Suleman alleged that Halima Abubakar shared disparaging comments about him on her Instagram profile, which were later disseminated by several blogs and newspapers.
Justice Enobie Obanor, sitting over the case, stated that Halima Abubakar had the option to defend herself but chose not to do so.
The ruling highlights that Halima Abubakar’s remarks on her Instagram username, @halimabubakar, were both false and malicious, harming Apostle Suleman’s public image.
As a result, the court awarded Apostle Suleman N10,000,000 in aggravated and exemplary damages for libel.
Additionally, the court imposed an injunction banning Halima Abubakar from making any additional publications about Apostle Suleman.
The judgment partly reads:
“The statements published by the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @halimabubakar, falsely and maliciously written and published to the general public, are defamatory of the person of the claimant.
“The sum of N10,000,000 only to the claimant as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel contained in the publication of the defendant against the claimant on her Instagram handle, @Halimabubakar and caused to be published in several blogs.”
Meanwhile, Stella Dimoko Korkus, a prominent Nigerian blogger, has claimed that the marriage of comedian Ayo Makun and his wife, Mabel, failed due to infidelity.
She stated that a BBNaija Reality, who got pregnant for the comedian twice, was among those who caused the crash of the marriage.
Recall that the couple were married for nearly 20 years before their marriage failed.
According to the allegations, a former contestant of the reality TV show Big Brother Naija became pregnant twice by Ayo Makun, with the second pregnancy causing significant issues in their marriage before it was terminated.
The blog also claimed that a musician’s ex-partner, who happens to be friends with Ayo’s wife, is currently sleeping with the comedian.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the wife of an actor, who was once friends with Mabel Makun, is also engaged in an extramarital affair with Ayo Makun.
SDK also hinted at Mabel’s alleged involvement in same-sex relationships, suggesting that a fashion designer who styled AY was involved with her romantically.
She wrote:
