Cross-dressing has become a thing in Nigeria these days. This is especially because of the fancy lifestyle many involved in the industry display on social media. These men who wear women’s attires have also gained social media fame with their style of dressing, even going to the extent of surgically enhancing their bodies to look more feminine.

In this article, we will profile some of the most popular crossdressers on the Nigerian social media space. It’s not like these crossdressers have seen it easy in Nigeria, most of them have faced serious opposition.

In a recent update by the Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police don’t have the power to arrest any citizen of Nigeria for cross-dressing.
Adejobi stated this during a Channels TV interview.

“Well, there are some cases that are always very difficult to prove. Fine, I am not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidences against them.

“I have not read anywhere where crossdressing is an offence in Nigeria. But if you, for instance, you want to prove a case of rape, rape has points to prove. If any one of those points is missing, you may lose your case in court.

“Let us be reasonable, you can’t arrest somebody you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against and as such, cross dressing is not a crime yet in Nigeria.

“Some of them that are into crossdressing, the allegation is that they are into something else. That’s where the problem lies.

“We need to have enough proof, credible evidence to prove that they are actually into that. All those offences are natural offences in Nigeria and they are punishable under our laws.”

Idris Olanrewaju aka Bobrisky

Bobrisky whose real name is Idris Olanrewaju, is a 33-year-old crossdresser and graduate of the University of Lagos. Bobrisky, as he is popularly called, was born in Ebute Metta area of Lagos state.

Bobrisky aka Mummy of Lagos, is the last child of his family. He was born male, but has transitioned or is in the process of transitioning to female, according to him.

Bobrisky was born to a Muslim family. His father, Alhaji Musibau Okuneye from Ogun State, married three wives. Bobriksy’s mother, Alhaja Bollington is still alive today. Bobrisky had, in the past, lied about his mother’s death. It was later claimed that the influencer’s mother is still alive and runs a kiosk in Ikeja, area of Lagos.

Many believed Bobrisky’s family was not in support of his cross-dressing. The crossdresser lost his father in 2023. He was seen dressed as a man to attend the burial with his other siblings believed to be 10 in number in attendance.

Bobrisky has grown from his early days of trying to crossdress. Mocked, ridiculed, and shamed on social media many times, Bobrisky has grown to become a brand with millions of followers. Apart from his fashion sense, Bobrisky has improved his body surgically to be better than most women.

Bobrisky rakes in millions from advertising products on Instagram and Snapchat. He is not far away from controversy. The crossdresser was recently arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for mutilating the naira. It all started after the crossdresser was awarded the ‘Best Dressed Female’ at a recent movie premiere. This didn’t go down well with Nigerians who attacked the crossdresser saying the award was rigged.

At one of the meet and greets organized by the movie producer, Bobrisky was spotted spraying money at an individual. The incident ran foul of the law forcing the EFCC to arrest and detain him for days. Following his arraigement in court, he was convicted.

He has also been seen in different clips engaging in romantic scenes with different men. It’s not clear what his sexual orientation is, but many believe that he loves men.

Bobrisky is doing quite well for himself. The crossdresser lives in a luxury apartment and boasts of expensive cars worth several millions of naira. Apart from owning a G-wagon, the star also owns a Mercedes-Benz GLE 43 AMG Coupe. In 2022, he reportedly held a house party ceremony for the opening of his N400 million house. He is an influencer of many products.

Chukwueze Obialor (James Brown)

James Brown is another popular crossdresser who has taken the Nigerian social media space by storm.

Born James Chukwueze Obialor, he came into the limelight in 2018 after a viral video of him trying to exonerate himself after he was arrested alongside some men suspected to be homosexuals. In the video, he was seen saying “They didn’t caught me”. The phrase quickly went viral. He spent some time at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility. Following his release after the case was dismissed by the court, he became an internet sensation, appearing in skits and using his Instagram page as a platform to show off his dance moves. Not long after, he began dressing like a woman.

James Brown was born on the 22nd of February 1999, he is a dancer, brand influencer, and content creator. Although he is not as big as Bobrisky, the Princes of Africa has a sizable 2M followers on Instagram.

James Brown who is from Imo State has hawked for a living. The dancer revealed in an interview with Legit.ng that he used to sell things on the streets of Lagos before he eventually found fame after his incarceration.

The crossdresser said he gets inspiration by looking up to Funke Akindele and Mercy Johnson. According to him, the two individuals are his role models. Speaking about his success, he revealed that he has been able to buy a house and two cars from his cross-dressing. James Brown is also known for his fashion sense.

Daniel Nsikan (Jay Boogie)

Jay Boogie is another crossdresser that has been noticed by Nigerians on the social media space. The 25-year-old Port-Harcourt born crossdresser is from Akwa Ibom state. Jay boogie whose real name is Daniel Nsikan began cross-dressing at a tender age. According to Boogie, he has always identified as a girl right from when he was small.

The crossdresser has undergone different surgeries to change his appearance and body. Apart from being a fashion enthusiast and brand influencer, Jay Boogie is also a media personality. He has not enjoyed as much success in the media space as Bobrisky and James brown, however, he has mastered the art of body transformation. Jay Boogie looks like he is determined to become more of a transgender person than a crossdresser, as he looks nothing like a male. His feminine features are more pronounced than any crossdresser in Nigeria. In a BBC interview, Jay Boogie confirmed that he’s a transgender. Asked about his sexual orientation, he stated that he loves men.

Jay Boogie has found fame and fortune in cross-dressing. Apart from enjoying a social media following, Jay Boogie owns a fashion company called Jay Brushes. Boogie is also a proud owner of JaySecrets, a beauty consultancy company.

In 2023, Nigerians lashed out at the crossdresser after he had cried out for financial assistance and claimed to have suffered complications due to surgery. Boogie had undergone BBL surgery and was seen in viral videos sobbing and crying. He then went ahead to ask Nigerians to donate money to help him treat the complications from the BBL surgery. Nigerians rallied and contributed $6,000 via GoFund. However, it was later revealed that he never suffered any complications, rather he deceived Nigerians into donating money for him to live a lavish life.

Okeke Onyebuchi (Deevah)

Deevah is a graduate transgender from the Southeastern part of Nigeria. Deevah whose real name is Okeke Alexander Onyebuchi is also a media sensation. He has over 170k followers on social media. Apart from representing brands, Deevah also has a great fashion sense. He once represented Nigeria in a transgender event. Deevah is also known for posting photos on social media and joining TikTok challenges.
