Nigerian singer-turned-filmmaker Tiwa Savage has made a confession.
She revealed that her initial passion was acting, not music.
Savage spoke during a recent interview with MTV Live to promote her latest movie project Water and Garri.
She confessed that she ventured into music because of a crush she had on a certain individual who frequently surrounded himself with musicians.
She said:
“I’ve always wanted to do acting. Acting was one of my first love before music. I got into music because I had a crush on a guy and he was always around the musician so I said ‘yeah, forget acting and just go into music.’”
Water and Garri, a film produced by Unbound Studios and its subsidiary JM Films, was filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana. The title of the film was inspired by Tiwa’s music EP, also titled ‘Water and Garri’, which was released in 2021.
Tiwa, who is the executive producer of the film through her company Everything Savage, not only wrote but also performed the original soundtrack for the movie.
In other news, Tiwa Savage has revealed the amount she got paid for her first-ever show.
She was with her junior colleague Odumodu Blvck in what appeared to be a studio when she made the statement. Tiwa Savage, who was formerly signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin label, discussed her experiences as a rising star in the music industry.
In a video posted on X, the mother of one, who was shown smiling as she cherished the wonderful moment, said that it happened during her Kele Kele Love phase, which was a big song in 2010/2011.
Odumodu Blvck and other studio employees couldn’t help but giggle as Tiwa Savage described her experience. According to her, she was overjoyed when she received the money.
Tiwa Savage stated in part:
“The first show I got was N50k, I swear, I was so happy, It was the era of Kelekele love.”
She addressed the myth by stating that she had collaborated with several female singers.
Tiwa Savage responded to individuals who accused her of neglecting other female musicians with a quick outburst on her Instagram story.
When asked about the singer’s future female collaborations, the mother of one dismissed the rumors as a ‘bullsh*t narrative.’
“But they ALWAYS want to say TIWA SAVAGE does not like or support female artists. Please who has more female collabs and There is sooo many more not even listed here. Yall miss me with that bull sh$t narrative, I dey hustle money on my mind,” she wrote.
