In other news, Following the aftermath, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Nigeria has issued an apology to Adebola Daniel, son of Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun state, for discriminatory treatment.
KFC, a major fast-food restaurant giant, posted the statement on its X page on Thursday.
The fast-food company expressed great remorse for the customer’s suffering and promised to take rapid measures to resolve the situation.
Daniel wrote on his official X page on March 27 about his experience at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) KFC location.
According to Daniel, the restaurant denied him and his family entry, indicating that “no wheelchairs were allowed.”
Following the statement he made on March 28, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced the closure of KFC due to discrimination against Daniel.
FAAN directed KFC management to issue an unreserved written apology to Daniel, as well as a non-discrimination policy statement, before resuming operations at MMIA.
In response to the claim, KFC restated its commitment to opposing prejudice or discrimination in any form, citing inclusion and respect as essential tenets of its beliefs.
The statement reads;
“KFC is unwavering in our stance against bias or discrimination in any form, with inclusivity and respect as non-negotiable pillars of our values,” the company said.“However, this recent incident has underscored the pressing need for immediate action. We have embarked on efforts to address the situation.“We deeply regret the frustration and distress experienced by our guest and extend sincere apologies to those affected.“In response, we are urgently implementing inclusion training for all our employees. This incident is not reflective of our standards, and we will act swiftly to rectify it.“We are actively exploring actions to equip our team members and restaurants better to ensure that every guest feels genuinely welcomed and that we deliver empathetic customer service that proactively addresses the diverse needs of each guest.”
The Commission stated that it strongly opposes all forms of consumer discrimination, including those based on handicap.
It further defined the behavior as not only illegal but also cruel and opposed to the principles that society holds dear.
The FCCPC further stated that it will continue to work closely with relevant authorities to provide adequate remedies for the harmed consumer in this situation.
According to the Commission, it will guarantee that the KFC store in issue accepts full responsibility for its conduct.
