Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, has resorted to social media to warn Nigerians against trusting everything they hear or read.

The rapper, who is presently fasting, emphasized his point on Twitter by sharing Quranic extracts.

Naira Marley, best known for classics like “Tesumole,” addressed the subject after persistent criticism and rumors about him and his close buddy, Sam Larry.

Allegations of his involvement in the killing of his previous signee, Mohbad, have surfaced, resulting in a strong backlash against him.

There have been reports that event centers, concert organizers, and media outlets have purposely stopped playing his music or scheduling him for events.

These activities have been linked to reported controversies involving Naira Marley and his associates.

Naira Marley responded to these reports by tweeting Quranic verses and advising Nigerians to evaluate facts before taking anything at face value.

He wrote;

“O believers, if an evildoer brings you any news, verify ‘it’ so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done. Quran 49:6 (Al-hujurat).

“Do not follow what you have no ‘sure’ knowledge of. Indeed, all will be called to account for ‘their’ hearing, sight, and intellect. Quran 17:36.

“And do not walk on the earth arrogantly. Surely you can neither crack the earth nor stretch to the height of the mountains. Quran 17:37”.

In other news, The criminal trial of Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, a.k.a. Naira Marley, could not begin before a Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, following a pending plea for fiat before the Chief Judge of the court.

Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, the prosecutor, informed the trial judge, Justice Isaac Dipeolu, that an application for fiat allowing the former judge to continue the defendant’s trial is already pending clearance by the court’s Chief Justice.

She stated that the application was dated December 8, 2023.

According to the Daily Post, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, is pursuing Naira Marley on cybercrime-related accusations.

The anti-corruption office proposed the accusations on May 14, 2019.

Fashola, who sang the hit song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” was charged on May 20, 2019, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, but pleaded not guilty.

Justice Oweibo granted him bail in the amount of N2 million, with two sureties in the same amount.

The trial in the case has now begun, and witnesses are still being called, although Justice Oweibo was later relocated from the Lagos division of the court.

The case was consequently moved to a different judge, Dipeolu.

When the matter was initially presented to Justice Dipeolu, Buhari appeared in the prosecution, while Mr. V.C. Maduagwu represented the defendant.

Defence counsel also verified the prosecutor’s stance before the court.

Counsel informed the new judge of the pending motion for fiat, and the court deferred the case until May 30 for the report.

According to the EFCC, the defendant committed the offenses on several days between November 26 and December 11, 2018, as well as on May 10, 2019.

The panel accused Fashola and his collaborators of conspiring to defraud their victims by using several Access Bank ATM cards.

According to the anti-graft agency, the actions violate Sections 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1), and 33(9) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act of 2015.
