The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe.
We had reported the sad passing of the bank executive in a helicopter crash along with his son and wife in the United States. The tragic incident happened on Friday.
Reacting on X, Okonjo-Iweala expressed deep sadness.
She wrote:
“Terribly saddened by the news of the terrible loss of Herbert Wigwe , Group CEO Access Bank @HerbertOWigwe, his wife and son as well as Bimbo Ogunbanjo in a helicopter crash. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Wigwe family, the Ogunbanjo family, Access Bank Group employees and Management @myaccessbank and my younger Brother Herbert’s partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”

We had earlier reported the death of the business executive on Saturday.
Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Bank has reportedly died in a helicopter crash in the United States.
This is according to a report by the New York Times. The crash took place on Friday near a border city between Nevada and California.
As of Saturday morning, no survivors have been reported after the crash by authorities.
He was heading to Las Vegas with five others, reportedly (including his wife and son) when the tragedy struck.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed at 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, Calif., an unincorporated village 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County.
“We were made aware of a downed aircraft at approximately 10:12 p.m., on February 10, 2024. The scene of the crash was determined to be east of the 15-Freeway, near Halloran Springs Road,” the sheriff’s department said.
As of the time of this story, Access Holdings, the owners of Access Bank, had yet to confirm Mr Wigwe’s death.
However, a Premium Times report stated that the sad news was confirmed by sources close to the banker.
