Waje, a Nigerian musician and songwriter, has spoken out against being considered an undervalued artist.

She stated this during a recent interview.

Fans of Waje had labeled the singer “underrated,” stating that she deserves more credit for her ability and contributions to the music industry.

However, in the most recent edition of the Secrets Behind the Scenes podcast, Waje indicated that she does not want to be considered an underappreciated artist.

She went on to say that “underrated” is not great praise, despite popular belief, and that how one defines success is entirely up to them and their thinking.

She said:

“I do not like being addressed as an underrated artist. Words have power. Some people might celebrate it [being called underrated] and make it like, ‘People see who I am and that’s why they said so.’

Your perception of success is between you and your mind.”

Waje’s third studio album, ‘W.A.J.E.. 2.0’, was released in 2022.

The singer previously declared that ‘W.A.J.E. 2.0’ will mark the re-emergence of the brand Waje, characterizing the body of work as “intentional, fit, stronger, and wholly refreshed” with a voice unlike what her fans have ever heard before.

Waje’s latest album features Tiwa Savage and Falz, among other performers. She collaborated with producers such as Masterkraft, DJ Coublon, Major Bangs, and LeriQ, to name a few.

Introducing the new project, Waje stated:

“Finally, the time has come to begin a new chapter, a new journey and a new expression of me. I am making the brightest stars out of the constellation of my life; I am super excited for you to come along with me as this story unfolds.”

Meanwhile, Grammy-winning Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has celebrated March 2nd as his day in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.

According to the Etikonaija, the Boston City Council has designated March 2nd as Burna Boy’s Day to honor the singer’s “performances and advocacy works.”

On Saturday, the Boston City Council awarded the singer a plaque during the city leg of his ‘I Told Them’ tour.

Burna Boy posted a photo of himself hoisting the plaque on stage via X,

He wrote:

“I feel incredibly honoured and privileged! Thank you Boston!

“The goal has always been the same, to bring the world together. We are all so different but all the same!

“2nd of March a.k.a Burna Boy Day.”
