Isiokpo residents in Rivers State’s Ikwerrre Local Government Area have announced a seven-day mourning period for Herbert Wigwe, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC, his wife, and their son, who were killed in a helicopter crash.
The country has been in sorrow since February 9, 2024, when it was revealed that Wigwe and his family were implicated in the unfortunate tragedy.
On Monday, His Royal Majesty, the Nye-Nwe-Eli of Isiokpo, Eze Blessing Ahiazunwo Wagor, decreed that Wigwe’s hometown will observe a week of mourning commencing Wednesday.
During the seven-day mourning period, all companies will be closed on the first and last days, with half-day operations on the other days.
According to Channels Television, many were dressed in black on Monday, reflecting the current atmosphere.
Meanwhile, officials in the United States have stated that witness testimony suggests that there was rain at the time of the helicopter crash in California, near the Nevada border, on Friday.
“Witness reports to the weather condition at the time of the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix,” said National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member Michael Graham during a press conference on Sunday.
The terrible occurrence also took the life of Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group.
In addition, two more crew members were sadly killed during this tragedy.
