Bukunmi Oluwasina, a popular actress and singer, has explained why she is no longer reading direct messages sent to her on social media.
According to her, she wants to focus on her affairs this year.
She mentioned that, as much as she wants to focus on her career this year, it is difficult for her since things are very hard now.
She said she feels sad watching her loved ones suffer due to the country’s economic condition.
She said:
“As much as I really want to mind my business for 2024, it’s hard. It’s hard cos it hurts. It hurts watching the people you love and care so much about suffering, and you can’t do anything about it, because no matter how much you have or what you do, you can’t solve everybody’s problems.“I have been avoiding my DM for days now, cos every time I open it, it messes up my mental health. Both poor, averagely okay, and even rich, are now begging for financial assistance.A month’s salary can’t even feed you for a week, let alone the whole family.”
He said, “Unguarded utterances coming from some sections of the populace are incisive and destructive and can exacerbate tensions and lead to violence in our beloved nation.” Mr Matawalle said Mr Tinubu “is trying his best in tackling the economic challenges being experienced by Nigerians. The President and his team are tirelessly working to alleviate the burdens on the Nigerian populace, advising the agents of disunity to refrain from further unwarranted utterances, as such will have consequences.”
Mr Matawalle’s warning came in the wake of outrage over economic hardship and soaring food costs. The National Bureau of Statistics announced that the country’s inflation rate rose to 29.90 percent in January 2024 from 28.92 percent in December 2023.
Last week, protesters in Niger, Kano, and Osun states demonstrated against the high cost of food, while the Nigerian Labour Congress called a two-day countrywide strike over the matter. In the midst of the developments, Fuji artist Wasiu Ayinde “KWAM1” and Nollywood actress Olaiya Igwe, who campaigned for Mr Tinubu, have highlighted concerns over the country’s rising commodity prices.
Also, the Northern Traditional Council, chaired by Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, warned that growing poverty, hunger, and instability in the country will push people to rise against President Bola Tinubu’s government.
