The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has announced that the Tinubu-led Federal Government intends to implement helicopter landing levies.
This information was revealed in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Press and Public Affairs Manager, Odutayo Oluseyi.
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has been permitted to commence charging these fees, with NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited being authorized to administer the fees on behalf of NAMA.
Oluseyi emphasized that this initiative will contribute to the funding of the agency, ensuring improved security, surveillance, and overall quality of helicopter operations in the country.
The statement reads:
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has granted NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited exclusive rights to collect helicopter landing levies in line with the MoU between NAEBI Concept and NAMA (focal agency), Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
“It is instructive to note that NAMA under the Act as amended in 2022, is empowered to collect aeronautical revenues in both the upper and lower airspace to support her self-sustainability. However, over the years, NAMA has predominantly relied on the upper airspace for its revenue generation.
“We are confident that this move will improve capacity, efficiency, safety, and security, and attract more investment in the aviation industry. We encourage all stakeholders to be committed to this laudable initiative that has followed due processes and procedures, and should embrace the new normal,”
Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, commended President Bola Tinubu for his decision to suspend the 0.5% cybercrime levy announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He praised the president for being attentive, responsive, and proactive in addressing the concerns of the people. Ndume made these remarks during an interview with Arise Television.
The cybersecurity levy, which was intended to be deducted from electronic bank transactions, faced strong opposition from the Nigerian public.
Ndume expressed his views on the policy, stating that:
“What the president did by calling for the suspension of the cybersecurity levy, is something I expected from him because I have known him for a very long time and I know him to be a listening, responsive and reactive person.
“So, I am not surprised that he immediately ordered that it should be suspended. Secondly, it is good that the President has acted and so we will go back to the drawing table to look at the act again.
“When this administration came on board, the first issue that needed to be addressed was the issue of cybercrime. It is part of the purpose of government as outlined in section 14(2) of our constitution that the purpose of government is to ensure the security and welfare of the citizens.
“Cybercrime is an important part of security and that is why the government was in a hurry to look at the enabling law that was signed in 2015 and then strengthen it and give more powers to the institutions charged with that responsibility to ensure efficiency and address the serious cybercrime ravaging the country and spoiling our reputation and name.”
