Don Jazzy, a music executive, has received appreciation from his former signee, Reekado Banks.

He discussed Don Jazzy and how he aided his career in a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze.

He also spoke about why he left Mavin Records. The hitmaker stated that he does not comprehend the notion that he left Mavin Records on poor terms.

“That man took me from absolutely nothing. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado said on his departure.
Reekado also discussed the trend of artist and label disagreements in Nigerian music, which has led to speculation about breaking with Mavin Records.
“I feel like it’s a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artists to break out angrily from their record labels and this is being imposed on my relationship with Jazzy,” Reekado Banks said on the assumptions surrounding his departure.
In other news, Universal Music Group (UMG) has acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global (Mavin).

Mavin was founded by Michael Collins Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy, in 2012.

Following the purchase, UMG revealed that it would allow Don Jazzy and COO Tega Oghenejobo to continue running the company.

Reacting, Don Jazzy said, “I’m proud of the artists, careers, and brands we’ve built that have made Mavin the force it is today. In this historic partnership with UMG, we will continue that mission in Africa and across the globe.”

Tega Oghenejobo added,” With our proven history of collaborations within the UMG family, we have a strong belief that they are the ideal partner for the next phase of our growth, given the diversity and potential of our business.

“UMG is home to some of the world’s foremost music entrepreneurs and artists, making them a perfect match for our aspirations. By collaborating with UMG, we are dedicated to cultivating a vibrant creative environment that propels African music to new heights on the global stage.”

Mavin Label, which was founded in 2012, has been a breeding ground for several musical prodigies. Its roster includes artists such as Rema, Ayra Starr, and Johnny Drille, among others.

According to the October 2023 article by Billboard, Mavin Records is either looking for investment or considering a complete sale, and sources indicate that Universal Music Group, HYBE, and financial sector investors are showing great interest in the record company.
