Shanty Town co-producers Ini Edo and Chinenye Nworah are reportedly locked in a legal struggle over ownership of the film.

This has left fans dumbfounded as prospects of a sequel to the Netflix successful series is now on hold or may never even happen.

According to a leaked cease-and-desist letter submitted by Ini Edo’s attorneys to Netflix, the actress wants all discussions about the sequel to be terminated since she claims co-ownership and production rights.

The letter reads, in part:

“It has come to our client’s attention that Netflix is currently negotiating a sequel to the cinematograph film – Shanty Town with Ms Chinenye Nworahand Giant Creative Media Limited (GCM) without the consent, knowledge or waiver of our client as co-owners of the intellectual property rights over the work Shanty Town.

“Please be advised that Ms Chineye Nworah and GCM are not the sole owners of the intellectual property rights over the Cinematograph film Shanty Town. Our clients are co-owners of the intellectual property rights and they have not authorised, permitted or sanctioned Ms Chinenye Nworah and GCM to discuss any sequel with Netflix on its behalf.”

Chinonye, in a separate reaction through her attorneys, disputed any concept of joint ownership with Ini Edo, branding her assertions as “false and malicious.”.

Shanty Town was launched in January 2023.

Shanty Town tells the story of Scar (Chidi Mokeme), a cruel leader who conducts a lot of dirty business and is widely recognized as the King of Shantytown.

Some of the Lagos hustlers that Scar and his fellow criminals have taken hostage have chosen to band together and wage war against him when it is revealed that the captives that Scar allegedly lets go are never seen again.
Shanty Town is home to drug dealers, prostitutes, and thugs. Even though Inem is the focus of the series, her life is swiftly brushed over and substituted with the positive things expressed about her by characters such as Jackie (Mercy Eke) and Mama T (Sola Sobowale), as planned in the prologue.

In other news, Portable, a Nigerian artist, has rejoiced with his fans after returning from the United Kingdom.

He was seen in his town providing food supplies such as rice, spaghetti, semovita, groundnut oil, and noodles to neighbors.

In a viral video, the artist urged people to approach and take the groceries he kindly donated.

The video showed a line of men and women waiting their turn to get packages from the artist.

There were other goods on hand, including noodles, spaghetti, rice, semovita, groundnut oil, and more.
