Six people have been arrested in connection with the death of Kiernan Forbes, a prominent South African rapper better known as AKA.
According to the Daily Post, AKA and another friend were shot and killed outside a restaurant in the coastal city of Durban in February 2023.
AKA and his best friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motshoane, were shot dead at close range by two armed individuals while walking to their vehicle.
However, during a press briefing on Tuesday night, KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi stated that the accused will appear in court on Thursday.
In a viral video, Mkhwanazi, a lieutenant-general, described how the culprits were apprehended and their participation in the rapper’s killing.
“It was clear that AKA was monitored from the airport and Tibz was not the intended target in the murder on Florida Road in Durban.
“We know they were paid for this”, he said.

In other news, Fireboy DML stated that Afrobeats lacks authentic lyrics. He believes that the popular genre revolves entirely around vibes.
In a recent interview with BET, Fireboy said that he developed his own Afrobeats sub-genre since he recognized his sound was “different.”
He claimed that his genre, unlike popular Afrobeats, had “some depth.”
He said:
“The Afrobeats scene before I came in. It was built on vibes. But I realized that there was something lacking, and that was pure soul and lyricism in our music. That was what I brought into the game. That’s why I call it Afro-Life — it’s Afrobeats that has some depth to it.”
