Movie producer Hope Omenihu Samuel has shed light on the cause behind the sudden deaths of Nollywood actors.

In an interview with The Sun, Hope emphasized the need for the film industry to alter its perspective on the work ethics of performers, even if it entails compromising their health and well-being.

Furthermore, she stressed the importance for actors to prioritize self-care.

She said:

“We need change. If I were put in charge, l would organize seminars on how to take care of ourselves while we are still strong. A lot of us work, work, and work without taking good care of ourselves and before long, we fall sick and begin to treat ourselves with our life’s savings, because of neglect over the years.

“We have to learn that even when we are working so hard, we can still take care of ourselves by eating and resting at the right time. People are dying and falling sick because of total disregard for their personal well-being. This is not right,”

In other news, Asa Asika, a well-known personality in the Nigerian music industry and a talent manager, has shared insights into his path in the entertainment industry.

During a recent interview, Asika, who currently manages the immensely popular artist Davido, discussed his humble beginnings. He started his journey by DJing and later went on to organize some of Nigeria’s most prominent parties and concerts.

Additionally, Asa Asika, who is also a co-founder of The Plug, shed light on his familial connection with Obi Asika, a music executive. He acknowledged his uncle’s significant contribution to his career.

“I never had any interest in entertainment. I ended up working in entertainment… there used to be these guys who used to make music.

One day, they walked up to me and said we are meeting with your uncle. I did not know the details then, but I knew my uncle works in the entertainment. I got home and told my dad  some group of guys want to meet my uncle. That was the beginning of how I found out what he does,” he said.

“Off of that, I started hanging out with Uncle Obi a bit. Paying attention to what is happening in music. I discovered my uncle had access to celebrities then. And the gain we had then was that when we have school parties, we get to have celebrities come around.

“… I started doing club nights and I started growing. The first event was a party at The Vault back in the day at Mega Plaza. A lot of people came for me to help them with song orientation. Banky was like the first to hire me to do this thing. Banky paid me a N100,000 then for ‘Lagos Party’. We did a club tour.”

Asika disclosed that he temporarily stepped back from overseeing Davido to concentrate on emerging artists.

“Nothing changed. Because now I already made up my mind that I wanted to work in the entertainment space and I enjoyed talent management,” he added.

“It is just a thing of working with other people. So for example, during that period, that is when I opened my own company properly. Stargaze is a business company I merged with The Plug.
